Playing with only ten men for 72 minutes, the U.S. Boys’ U-20 national team tied Trinidad & Tobago, 2-2, in Port-of-Spain on July 12. Following the early ejection of U.S. midfielder Nick Downing the Americans took the lead through Chris Albright in the 32nd minute. Albright has now scored a goal or an assist in each of the team’s last eight games. Jamar Beasley doubled the U.S. lead in the second half, but the determined Trinidadians battled back with goals in the 88th minute and in stoppage time to earn the draw. U.S. coach Sigi Schmid continued to experiment with new lineups as the squad makes final preparations before the CONCACAF U-20 qualifying tournament in August. At stake is one of four CONCACAF berths in the 1999 FIFA World Youth Championship. July 12 in Port of Spain Trinidad & Tobago 2 USA 2. Goals: Cornell 88, Adams 90; Albright 32, Beasley 81.
