Last week, Boca Juniors coach Ricardo Lavolpe joked that he’ll be hanged if Boca finishes second. His team had already blown one chance to clinch the title, losing 1-0, to Belgrano Dec. 3. In its last game of the season on Sunday, Boca fell to Lanus, 2-1, a result that would still have delivered the title had Estudiantes, coached by former Argentine star Diego Simoene, not scored twice in the last five minutes to beat Arsenal, 2-0.
The results force a playoff for the title between Boca and Estudiantes on Wednesday (TV: 3 pm ET live on Fox Sports en Espanol; 5 pm ET delay on Fox Soccer Channel).
