Barcelona had never sold space on its players’ jerseys to advertisers even though other mega-clubs like Real Madrid and Manchester United earn about $35 million in annual revenue by turning their players into billboards. Now the Catalan team’s players are sporting a logo, but the club is paying, not accepting money. Ronaldinho & Co., now don a UNICEF logo and the club has pledged to donate 0.7 percent of its annual income to the UN organization’s program dedicated to reducing extreme poverty, hunger and infant mortality, achieving universal primary education and promoting gedner equality. The contribution promises to be at least $3.4 million this season.
