About 90 seconds of a World War II era speech by Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels played over the PA system at Forestview High School’s soccer stadium before its home game against Charlotte Catholic High School in Gastonia, N.C. Forestview High School principal Robert Carpenter has sent a letter of apology to Charlotte Catholic, which lost, 1-0, and said neither he nor the team’s coach knew about the speech.
In his letter, Carpenter wrote, “Sometime back Coach Shearer and the team started using ‘On to victory’ as a slogan. We have a German exchange student on our team. He taught our students to say it in German. Some of our more zealous students sought to capture this slogan in German and to play it on the PA. …”
