The Chicago Fire, whose MLS playoff hopes are in jeopardy following a five-game winless streak, won their U.S. Open Cup round of 16 game, 2-0, over fellow MLS club Kansas City.
Rookie Calen Carr and Andy Herron scored for the Fire in front of a Toyota Park crowd of 5,874 in a game postponed from Aug. 2 because of heavy thunderstorms.
For the first time since 2000 and the second time since the inception of MLS, all eight quarterfinalists are from MLS.
