FC Dallas fired Coach Colin Clarke on Tuesday after he failed to steer the club past the first round of the playoffs for the second straight year. Clarke’s replacement will be the team’s fourth coach since its inception in 1996. Only once, under its first coach, Dave Dir, has Dallas managed to advance past the first round.
Here’s how FC Dallas coaches have fared:
David Dir (1996-2000)
Regular season record: 81-75-4.
Playoffs (6-11-0): Qualified all five seasons. Reached semifinals in 1997.
Mike Jeffries (2001-2003)
Regular season record: 26-36-16.
Playoffs (1-3-2): Eliminated in first round in 2001 & 2002.
Colin Clarke (2003-2006) replaced Jeffries with six games left in 2003 season.
Regular season record: 41-39-20.
Playoffs (1-2-1): Missed playoffs in 2003 and 2004. Eliminated in first round in 2005 and 2006.
