Abby Wambach‘s second goal of the game two minutes into stoppage time gave the USA a dramatic 2-1 victory over Iceland in a women’s friendly on Sunday afternoon in Richmond, Va.

Wambach took a pass from Stephanie Lopez at the top of the penalty box on the left side, powered her way through the Icelandic defense and beat  Iceland keeper Thora Helgadottir with a rolling shot for her 64th goal in 79 games.

Helgadottir had until then limited the USA to one goal, keeping the game close with 14 saves until Iceland tied the score in the 89th minute on Margret Lara Vidarsdottir‘s penalty kick.

Next up for the USA is the eight-team Peace Queen Cup, to be held in six South Korean cities Oct. 28-Nov. 4. All three U.S. opponents Denmark, Australia and North Korea have qualified for the 2007 Women’s World Cup. CONCACAF qualifying for China ’07 will take place in late November.
