Germany, which in 2006 hosted the men’s World Cup, is bidding to host the 2011 Women’s World Cup.

The German soccer federation announced its intentions while revealing a logo and the slogan, “A reunion of friends – See you again.”

“After the fantastic men’s World Cup and the summer fairy tale of 2006, it’s our great goal to offer an equally impressive women’s tournament to fans from all over the world,” DFB President Theo Zwanziger said.

At the launch ceremony in Berlin, DFB officials also announced that the 2006 World Cup made a final pretax profit of $204 million, $27.4 million more the original estimate.

Germany’s World Cup organizing committee will pay back $65 million to FIFA. The DFB and Germany’s professional league (DFL) will split the remaining $139 million (after tax).

Total revenue from the tournament was $733 million; spending was $529 million.

Germany is the reigning Women’s World Cup champion and will defend its title in China (Sept. 10-30).
