The MLS dominated the A-League in the U.S. Open Cup round of 16. In eight clashes between the first and second tiers of American soccer, only one A-League team claimed victory: The Milwaukee Rampage made the two-time Open Cup champ Chicago Fire its victim. JOHN WOLYNIEC, who played 21 games for the Fire in 2000-2001, assisted on Yugoslav RANKO GOLIJANIN's 54th minute goal for Milwaukee's 1-0 win. In Columbus, KYLE MARTINO assisted twice on DANTE WASHINGTON goals and BRIAN McBRIDE notched a penalty kick for a 3-0 Crew win over the Richmond Kickers. The Kansas City Wizards avoided defeat in spectacular fashion. They trailed the Rochester Rhinos for 85 minutes but built a comeback on goals by DARIO FABBRO and IGOR SIMUTENKOV, whose 90th-minute strike sent the game into overtime at 2-2. CHRIS BROWN notched the golden goal for a 3-2 win. ANTONIO MARTINEZ's second goal of the evening was the Dallas Burn's golden goal in a 2-1 win over the Atlanta Silverbacks. The Colorado Rapids went scoreless with the Charleston Battery until JOHN SPENCER hit a 98th-minute golden goal to give the MLS club a 1-0 win. Defending Open Cup champ Los Angeles pulled off the most emphatic win of the round of 16, thumping the Minnesota Thunder, 4-0. CHRIS ALBRIGHT scored twice for the Galaxy. RONNIE EKELUND scored twice and ARIEL GRAZIANI notched the golden goal in the San Jose Earthquakes' 4-3 thriller over the Seattle Sounders. On Tuesday, the MetroStars beat the Hampton Roads, 1-0, on a RODRIGO FARIA goal.
