Ashley Cole, whose set to earn $150,000 a week at new club Chelsea, wants you to know he’s not greedy. The England left back fears his image may have been damaged by the protracted transfer saga which saw the player endure more than a year at a club he clearly wanted to leave. Money had nothing to do with it, Cole said. “I know full well that I’m not a greedy person. I’ve not come here for money. I’ve come here because I want to win things and I have a good chance of winning things at Chelsea.” Cole’s dispute with Arsenal started when the club failed to back him in an investigation into an illegal meeting at a London hotel last year with Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho. His relationship with club vice chairman David Dein went downhill from there, as the player determined his club had failed to show him support and respect. Later this month, Cole’s autobiography hits shelves in England. It’s expected to contain a personal account of his bust-up with Arsenal’s management. Cole insists that his problems were with Arsenal’s management, not coach Arsene Wenger or his teammates. “Arsene has been great to me,” he said. “He has always been supportive, even up to the last days of the transfer. Chelsea paid $9 million for Cole, and William Gallas, who definitely needed to leave Chelsea, joined Arsenal as part of the package.
