A huge police and military presence greeted the United States upon its arrival in South Korea for the World Cup. More than 800 police protected the players and staff as they made their way from the Incheon International Airport arrival area to the team bus. On the 45-minute trip from the airport to the Seoul Marriott Hotel, where the team is staying south of the Han River, the team bus and van were protected by two police cars, two police motorcycles, a large Chevy Suburban that contained eight SWAT team members and three helicopters. Police searched a 100-meter perimeter of the Marriott for explosives. Most of the entrances to the hotel have been closed to reduce the risk of intruders entering the hotel. More than 150 police officers are on duty at the hotel. According to U.S. Soccer, the first U.S. practice was scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday (9 p.m. ET Friday) at the team's training headquarters in Misari, east of Seoul. There had been unconfirmed reports out of Asia in recent weeks that the United States would change training centers, moving to a Korean military base because of security concerns.
