Soccer America’s season-ending Team of the Week honors the MLS players most often selected to the squad during the 2001 season. Six reserves, all with four selections, were added to an 11-man lineup headed by Miami forward Alex Pineda Chacon (7 selections), San Jose midfielder Manny Lagos (6) and Miami defender Pablo Mastroeni (6). In all, 118 MLS players were named to the 22 SA Teams of the Week. Among the forwards honored is MetroStars star Clint Mathis, who was named to four of the first six Teams of the Week before suffering a season-ending ACL tear.
