Richard Stockton claimed its first NCAA men’s soccer title Saturday night when Redlands, which twice fought back from deficits, couldn’t answer Mike McAlamen’s 59th-minute goal in the Division III final. McAlamen headed home Jeff Moore’s corner as the Ospreys (25-1-1), from Pomona, N.J., scored a 3-2 triumph in a constant drizzle at Messiah College in Grantham, Pa. Justin Wells scored goals in the 12th and 51st minutes, his 21st and 22nd of the season, as Redlands (20-4) overcame 1-0 and 2-1 deficits. The Bulldogs, from San Bernardino County in Southern California, couldn’t crack Stockton’s nine-man defensive wall in the final half hour. Greg Ruttler fed John Epley for the Ospreys’ fourth-minute goal, then added one of his own in the 20th. The Stockton defense cleared a shot off the line in the 72nd minute, and Osprey goalkeeper Brett Steinberg made six saves. Redlands owned an 18-10 shot advantage..
