Florida and UCLA joined college women’s soccer’s final eight Sunday with emphatic home victories in the NCAA Division I Championships and will battle for a berth in the College Cup next weekend in Los Angeles.. Keisha Bell and Crystal Frimpong scored goals in the first 25 minutes to start the sixth-seeded Gators (20-3-1) toward a 3-1 third-round victory over Clemson (14-5-1), their 10th successive win. Third-seeded UCLA (20-2) extended its home unbeaten streak to 27 games with a 3-1 triumph over Dayton (17-6), halting the Flyers’ 15-game winning streak. The Florida-UCLA clash, set for Sunday at 1 p.m. at Drake Stadium in Westwood, will join Friday’s North Carolina-Penn State, Saturday’s Santa Clara-Virginia and Sunday’s Portland-Texas A&M games in determining the final four. The NCAA Women’s College Cup will be contested Dec. 7 and 9 at SMU’s Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas. The Bruins took an early lead on Mary-Frances Monroe’s 12th goal of the season in the eighth minute, and Breana Boling doubled it in the 71st. Dayton got one back on Meghan McKnight’s 25-yard free kick with 35 seconds to play, but Stephanie Rigamat beat a pushed-up Flyer defense and finished Emily Ernsdorf’s through ball 21 seconds later. The goal was Rigamat’s team-leading 13th of the season. Abby Wambach set up two goals for Florida, and Robin Bell netted a 64th-minute insurance goal from Frimpong’s deflected shot after the Tigers halved their deficit four minutes into the second half on Deliah Arrington’s team-leading 11th goal of the season. Bell, one of the nation’s top defenders, scored her first goal of the season from a Christine Johnson corner kick in the eighth minute. Frimpong scored from Abby Wambach’s feed in the 25th minute. Wambach has 13 assists this season, along with 31 goals, and leads the nation in scoring with 75 points. Lindsay Browne, Clemson’s leading scorer, sustained a knee injury and didn’t play during the second half. NCAA DIVISION I WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP THIRD ROUND Sunday’s results UCLA 3 Dayton 1.
