MLS’s Kansas City Wizards and the MetroStars are among 16 teams entered in the South American confederation’s annual Merconorte Cup. Other teams include Blooming (Bolivia); America Cali, Millonarios and Atletico Nacional (Colombia); Aucas, Emelec and Barcelona (Ecuador); Alianza Lima, Universitario and Sporting Cristal (Peru); Guadalajara (Mexico). The field will be completed by one Venezuelan team and two more Mexican teams. The draw will be held May 22 in Miami. According to CONMEBOL’s Merconorte schedule, the dates for the two MLS teams are: First Round Team 1: Aug. 1 (at Venezuela team), Aug. 22 (Mexico 2), Sept. 12 (Colombia 2), Sept. 26 (Venezuela), Oct. 17 (at Mexico 2), Oct. 31 (at Colombia 2). Team 2: Aug. 8 (at Peru 2), Aug. 29 (Mexico 3), Sept. 19 (Ecuador 2), Oct. 10 (Peru 2), Oct. 24 (at Mexico 3), Nov. 21 (at Ecuador 2). Semifinals Nov. 28-29 Dec. 5-6 Final Dec. 12 Dec. 19
