Lee Berke is leaving his job as the league’s chief television and marketing officer for the WUSA to establish his own sports and entertainment consulting company with the WUSA as his first client. Berke was one of the league’s first employees. He was the league’s acting president for over a year and was named to his current post this past February. During his tenure he oversaw all off-the-field business activities during its initial launch, including the negotiation of the league’s four-year national TV deal with Turner and also helping to land the WUSA’s first two charter sponsors. In his role as chief of television and marketing he oversaw the sponsorship, marketing, event development, merchandising, public relations and television departments. “We appreciate all of Lee Berke’s efforts in helping to successfully launch the WUSA as one of the top sports leagues in the world,” said WUSA CEO Barbara Allen. “We also look forward to working with him in the future on other projects.”
