The U.S. under-20 national team came back from a 1-0 deficit to beat Italy, 2-1, in the 29th Festival International Espoirs in Toulon, France. Oguchi Onyewu and Alecko Eskandarian netted in the 61st and 64th minutes to erase a goal by ItalyÆs Capone three minutes into the second half. The victory extended the U-20s’ international unbeaten streak to seven games, and came without regular contributors DaMarcus Beasley, Edson Buddle, Bobby Convey and Landon Donovan, all of whom stayed in the U.S. with their Major League Soccer teams. After Capone had put the Italians up 1-0 shortly after halftime, Onyewu skillfully headed home from six yards out after Kyle Martino found him at the end of his free kick from the midfield. Just two minutes later, U.S. Olympian Conor Casey collected a pass in the penalty area, fought off a defender and squared a pass to Eskandarian at the top of the box. With two deft touches, Eskandarian eluded three Italian defenders and slotted home a left-footed shot into the lower right corner of the goal, completing the U.S. comeback. Next up for the U.S. is Colombia on Saturday, May 26. The game will be broadcast LIVE on Fox Sports World and Fox Sports World Espanol at 10 a.m. ET / 7 a.m. PT. United States 2 Italy 1.
