Dates and locations have been announced by CONCACAF for the Giants Cup tournament. Semifinalist D.C. United will play the winner of a playoff series between Guatemalan club Communicaciones and Mexican club Guadalajara on Aug. 3 at the Los Angeles Coliseum. The other semifinal, to be played the same day at the same site, will match Saprissa of Costa Rica against the winner of a two-leg playoff between Mexican club America and Guatemalan club CD Saprissa. The Giants Cup final will be played at the Coliseum Aug. 5. The Coliseum will also host the second legs of the two qualifying series July 31 and Aug. 1. Unless it can alter its MLS schedule, D.C. United could be forced to play four games in seven days with a round-trip cross-country flight thrown in. It plays at home against Miami Aug. 1 and the MetroStars Aug. 8. The Mexico-Ecuador friendly that was supposed to be played last Saturday as a doubleheader with the Fire’s game against Kansas City may be rescheduled for June 23. The Fire plays New England that night.
