Dianne Alagich is the newest CyberRay instead of Danish defender Lene Terp. The Bay Area club dropped its pursuit of Terp because of the delay in getting Terp’s work visa from the U.S. embassy in Copenhagen and because of her national team commitments. Forced to look elsewhere for foreign defensive help, the CyberRays found it in Alagich, upon the recommendation of assistant coach Tom Sermanni, formerly the Matildas head coach. Terp would not be available to the club until after the upcoming European Championships in Germany. “We waived Amy Walsh last week, and we canÆt go with 19 players for that long,” CyberRays general manager Marlene Bjornsrud said. “Therefore we decided to turn to Alagich, who has no national team commitments this season.” However, Australia has planned to take its senior national team to Tokyo for a training camp July 11-18. The Matildas are scheduled to assemble for the Japan trip on July 6 in Australia. The roster will be announced on June 15. Alagich has 27 caps for Australia. The 22-year-old defender played every minute of the Matildas’ three games in the 2000 Sydney Olympics and every minute of the Matildas’ three games in World Cup ’99.
