For the first time, a club will have two teams entered in the second round of the U.S. Open Cup. The PDL’s Seattle Sounders Select team earned a 4-1 victory over the USASA Region I winner Olympia Stamford of Connecticut in Renton, Wash., to advance to the second round of the U.S. Open Cup, where it joins the A-League Sounders, one of 16 teams to advance from A-League/D3 Pro League qualifying. Forward Greg Foisie scored two goals in his first five minutes off the bench for the Sounders reserves. The PDL’s Central Coast Roadrunners topped USASA Region IV champion Selma (Calif.) Mexico SC, 5-4, on penalty kicks after their game ended 1-1. The first round will conclude Wednesday, June 13, with a pair of inner-state encounters. USASA Region III representative Davie (Fla.) Uruguay SC travels to face the Miami Strike Force of the PDL. In an all-Michigan battle, the PDL’s Mid Michigan Bucks host the USASA Region II’s Chaldeon Arsenal of Farmington Hills.
