Trinidad & Tobago striker Dwight Yorke was suspended for his team’s important Hexagonal match with Honduras Saturday, June 16, after he missed T&T’s warmup game at Panama. The Manchester United star flew from England and met the T&T in Miami but did not travel with it to Panama. He claimed he had an illness in the family, explaining his decision to fly to Trinidad & Tobago, but he was reportedly later seen at nightclubs with Soca Warriors captain Russell Latapy and West Indies cricket star Brian Lara. Yorke and Latapy were involved in a much-publicized incident recently when Latapy was arrested on drunk-driving charges after he and Yorke spent a night on the town in Edinburgh. Latapy was later released by Scottish club Hibernian over the incident. Defender Anthony Rougier was also suspended for the Honduras game after skipping the Panama match. Trinidad & Tobago has one point in three games, putting it in last place in the six-team CONCACAF World Cup qualifying group, and must beat Honduras to have any chance in the Hexagonal. The Soca Warriors then face the United States in Foxboro, Mass., June 20.
