The terrorist attacks on New York and Washington put an end to the entire Top 20 schedule last week, forcing postponement of cancellation of several anticipated matchups. Two of the meetings, Santa Clara-California and Clemson-Florida State, were rescheduled for today. Notre Dame’s trip to Northern California, to face Santa Clara and Stanford, was postponed, although it is uncertain whether the games will be played at a later date. The Portland Invitational, featuring the fourth-ranked Pilots, fifth-ranked Nebraska and sixth-ranked Washington, was cancelled, although Nebraska will make an October trip to Oregon to take on Portland. No. 12 Texas A&M added a match today against Tulane to its schedule to make up for its lost games. No. 16 Wake Forest and Kentucky, which were to play at the Loyola Marymount Tournament in Los Angeles, decided after the event was cancelled to meet on Sunday, but that match, too, was terminated in response to last week’s tragedy. A few teams bubbling under the Top 20 did get in games, with BYU edging Northwestern and St. Mary’s topping Minnesota last Monday at Northwestern’s tournament.
