The USA and China are still tied 1-1 at the half in the women’s gold-medal match.
The play has been even so far, with the U.S. controlling the first 20 minutes of action, and China getting the better of the final 15 minutes. The U.S. has had more scoring chances.
The U.S. is operating in a 3-5-2 with Michelle Akers dropping back into the midfield. Mia Hamm has played well despite her injured ankle, and continues to stretch the Chinese defense with her speed. The U.S. has played a great deal of long balls forward to Hamm and striking partner Tiffeny Milbrett.
Kristine Lilly, Milbrett, and Briana Scurry have all been booked for the U.S., while Xie Huilin received a yellow card for China.
