Michelle Akers scored on a penalty kick in the 77th minute to tie the match at one apiece.
The penalty appeared to be for a handball in the box against Norway’s Gro Espeseth after the U.S. took a corner kick.
Akers rifled the ball into the left side of the goal, while Norway’s Bente Nordby guessed incorrectly and dove the opposite way.
Akers had another shot on goal off a U.S. free kick a minute later, but it was blocked by Norway’s Nina Nymark Andersen.
