San Diego has elevated defender Joy Fawcett from the maternity leave list to the 20-player active roster. The Spirit waived Mexico defender Gina Oceguera to make room for the three-time world champion who helped the USA to WomenÆs World Cup titles in 1991 and 1999 and won an Olympic gold medal in 1996. Fawcett, who gave birth to her third daughter Madilyn Rae on June 5, will rejoin her teammates at training sometime this week, but will start off with only light running and ball work once she is medically cleared. No date has been set for her WUSA debut. Fawcett is fourth all-time in U.S. history with 184 appearances for the national team and is the highest scoring defender in U.S. history with 24 goals. She is one of only two players to play every minute of the 1995 WomenÆs World Cup, the 1996 Olympics, the 1999 WomenÆs World Cup and the 2000 Olympics. Oceguera, the fifth round choice of the Spirit in the Inaugural WUSA Draft, had played in just two games this year, spanning 18 minutes.
