Honduran coach Ramon Maradiaga has announced that his team will be without the services of its best striker, David Suazo, for the Sept. 1 World Cup qualifying clash with the USA. The Honduran federation had received a letter from Suazo’s Italian Serie B club Cagliari that stated he would not be available because of injuries suffered during the Copa America. Suazo, who joined Cagliari in 1999 for $3.2 million, was also absent when the USA beat Honduras, 2-1, in San Pedro Sula March 28. In that case Maradiaga opted not to use him because Suazo’s arrival from Cagliari, which has made a habit of being uncooperative, would not release him for a friendly game a week before the qualifier. Also, Honduran starting keeper Noel Valladares is suffering from an abdominal injury.
