There was plenty of movement within Soccer America‘s Top 20 this week, with Stanford (from No. 8 to No. 5), Texas A&M (No. 12 to No. 7), California (No. 13 to No. 8) and Florida State (No. 17 to No. 13), among others, jumping up the rankings following impressive weeks. A&M made its leap despite falling to No. 3 Portland, 2-1, at the Nike Husky Classic in Seattle. The Pilots needed a late Christine Sinclair strike to pull out the victory. A&M topped host Washington and routed visiting Tulane in its other games last week. Washington, which also tied BYU at its tournament, fell from sixth to 14th. Cal’s victory over Santa Clara, which fell from third to sixth, prompted its appearance in the Top 10, and Florida State overcame Clemson, which dropped from seventh to 12th, and North Carolina State in its first two ACC matches. Stanford’s decisive victories over Fresno State and Dayton aided its rise. William & Mary fell from 14th to 20th after it was held scoreless in a tie with Penn. Miami and Wake Forest fell from the Top 20. The Hurricanes lost to crosstown rival Florida International, and the Demon Deacons were beaten by Tennessee. West Virginia, which toppled Auburn and Rutgers, and Tennessee, which overcame Wake Forest but lost to Clemson, 4-3, in overtime, made their first appearances this season in the SA Top 20.
