Trinidad & Tobago international Mickey Trotman, who played for the A-League’s Rochester Rhinos, was killed in a car accident Wednesday morning in his hometown of Arima, Trinidad. Trotman had returned home to prepare for T&T’s World Cup qualifier with Honduras Sunday. Trotman’s brother, Stefan, and a female companion were also killed in the accident near his home. Another brother, Kenyon, and a fifth occupant of the car were seriously injured. Trotman, 26, played for MLS’s Dallas Burn and Miami Fusion in 1998-99 (6 goals and 5 assists in 20 games). He signed with the A-League’s New Orleans Storm in 1997 after graduating from NAIA school Belhaven. He joined the Rhinos (1 assist in 11 games) this year from Joe Public. He debuted for T&T in 1999 and scored the winning goal for the Soca Warriors in their 2-1 win over Costa Rica in the 2000 Gold Cup quarterfinals. He played in three games for T&T in the Hexagonal. Trotman is the second player from a Hexagonal team to die in a car crash this year. Jamaica’s Stevie Malcolm was killed in Montego Bay on the eve of the start of the Hexagonal.
