Los Angeles became the first team to earn a tie at Soldier Field in postseason history when it drew with Chicago, 1-1, in Game 1 of their semifinal series. But the Galaxy canÆt be happy that it didnÆt grab all three points. The ejection of Evan Whitfield in the 60th minute for a foul on Cobi Jones gave the Galaxy a man-advantage it didnÆt exploit. Moreover, Chicago lost its top player, Peter Nowak, to injury after 45 minutes. The Game 1 tie in this first-to-five-points series guarantees a Game 3 in Chicago regardless of this weekendÆs result in Los Angeles. The Fire scored first in the 32nd through Eric Wynalda. Peter Nowak had raced down the center of the field and fed teammate DaMarcus Beasley on the left flank. Beasley then crossed it into the box toward the far post where Wynalda slotted it home with a first-time shot. The Galaxy equalized in the 44th minute when Luis Hernandez scored on his own rebound after Zach Thornton saved a penalty kick that was awarded for a Chris Armas foul on Sasha Victorine.
