Pat Noonan struck twice and Indiana made Clemson its 16th shutout victim this season, grabbing a 2-0 quarterfinal victory Sunday afternoon in Bloomington, Ind., to claim its fifth successive berth in the NCAA Men’s College Cup. The Hoosiers (17-3-1), who have reached the final four 15 times in 29 seasons and take aim at their sixth title and third in four years, will meet St. John’s (17-2-3) in a semifinal Friday in Columbus, Ohio. Stanford (19-1-1) and North Carolina (19-4) face off in the other semifinal. “Our sum is greater than our parts,” Coach Jerry Yeagley said. “We are bigger than 11 men. They all play for each other, and the chemistry in this team is the secret to its success. We may not have marquee players, but I wouldn’t trade any of them.” Clemson (19-5), which was playing without or lost during the game its top three scorers (Ian Fuller, Dimelon Westfield, Steven Rhyne) because of hamstring pulls, struck a half-hour in on an Oguchi Onyewu header, but he was whistled for a foul. Onyewu, normally a defender, played up top for the Tigers and caused havoc early for the Hoosiers, who didn’t gain the upper hand until the second half. Noonan, a first-team All-American, took a feed from Mike Ambersley and fired into the top-left corner to give Indiana a lead in the 61st minute. He added to it with his 16th goal of the year, from 16 yards, in the 82nd. Goalkeeper Colin Rogers extended his shutout streak beyond 650 minutes, notching his fourth clean sheet in as many playoff games. Indiana has surrendered only six goals this season.
