D.C. United continued its wheeling and dealing, just like it did last winter, making two trades before and after the MLS Allocation and Dispersal Drafts in New York. United dealt midfielder Stephen Armstrong to Kansas City for defender Brandon Prideaux and sent U.S. international striker Chris Albright and the No. 24 overall pick in 2002 SuperDraft to the Los Angeles Galaxy for the No. 8 and No. 18 overall picks in 2002 SuperDraft and conditional pick in 2003 SuperDraft.
