The Kansas City Wizards became the first MLS team to advance to the semifinals of the 2002 FC Champions Cup with a 2-0 win over Santos of Mexico. Carey Talley and Chris Brown scored for Kansas City, which won, 3-2, on aggregate. The Wizards will play the winner of the Chicago Fire-Morelia series. The MLS champion San Jose Earthquakes outshot Mexico’s Pachuca, 21-4 overall and 18-0 in the second half, but they only managed a 1-0 win at Spartan Stadium, not enough to erase a 3-0 deficit from the first leg. Pachuca meets Alajeula of Costa Rica in the semifinals.
