The U.S. U-20s tied Costa Rica in the final game of the Group B CONCACAF qualifying tournament. Playing without six regular starters from their previous two matches — including Landon Donovan, who returned to Florida to join the U.S. senior national team — the U.S. fell behind to Costa Rica on a 42nd minute free kick from Johel Fajardo. The 23-yard free kick was set-up by a yellow-card handball infraction by U.S. midfielder Brad Davis, who would be ejected from the game for a second yellow card just a few minutes into the second half. Playing with just 10 men, the U.S. tied the match through a Kyle Martino strike from 15 yards out. Costa Rica wins the group on goal difference (plus-10 to plus-9) but both teams qualify for Argentina 2001 this summer. This game will be broadcast on taped-delay tonight on Galavision at 7 p.m. ET & PT. March 22 in Tunapuna, Trinidad USA 1 Costa Rica 1. Goals: Martino 51; Fajardo 42.
