Three players who tried out over the weekend with the Bay Area CyberRays have been invited back to the opening of the team’s preseason training camp. Coach Ian Sawyers chose the three from 14 candidates who had been brought in to San Jose for three days of training and two scrimmages against two Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) teams from Feb. 10-12. Selected to join the 24 players already on the WUSA team’s roster for the March 1 opening of training camp were forward Lindsay Nohl, Christina Harsaghy and Kelly Wilson. Nohl was a college forward at William & Mary, where she was a teammate of CyberRays midfielder Ann Cook, and where she was an assistant coach last season. Harsaghy, a defender, played college soccer at Portland and abroad in Germany and Sweden. She was a teammate of CyberRays midfielder Theresa Wagner with the WPSL Seattle Sounders last year. Wilson, a forward and co-captain when she played for the Indiana Hoosiers, is now an assistant coach at Sonoma State. Each WUSA team may bring as many as 28 players to training camp. The roster must be cut to 20 players by April 2. The Washington Freedom hosts the CyberRays at RFK Stadium in the league’s first game on April 14.
