The U.S. under-18 national team opened 2001 with a nine-day training camp in Bradenton, Fla., and came away with two wins, a loss and a tie in four exhibition games. The U-18s wrapped up the camp on a winning note with a 2-0 victory over the U.S. under-17 national team on Feb. 10. In that game Ricardo Clark opened the scoring in the eighth minute, off an assist by Project-40 signing Devin Barclay. Michael Enfield netted the second in the 56th minute, with Vfb Stuttgart player Dimi Colon recording the assist. The win against the U-17s came just two days after the U-18s picked up their first victory of the year, 1-0, over the Chicago Fire. Miguel Saavedra scored the only goal in the ninth minute. The U-18s also lost to the Tampa Bay Mutiny, 3-0, on Feb. 9 and drew, 0-0, in their first meeting with the under-17s on Feb. 6.
