The United States needed a 92nd minute goal to earn a 1-1 tie with Tunisia in an international friendly March 12 in Birmingham, Ala. Tunisia took the lead in the 78th minute through Maher Khanzari, who beat U.S. keeper Tony Meola from 16 yards out with a diagonal shot to the far post. Ben Olsen hit the equalizer two minutes into stoppage time. He slotted home low from seven yards by pouncing on a loose ball after a Tunisian defender deflected John OÆBrien shot. The USA squandered its share of chances. Jason Kreis, who thrice found himself with only the Tunisian goalkeeper to beat, had a particularly frustrating outing. In the first half he shot high from close range. In the second half, he shot straight to the keeper after a bad Tunisia clearance. In stoppage time, he hit a difficult side volley over the goal from eight yards. The Tunisians barely tested Meola prior KhanzariÆs goal.
