Freddy Adu didn’t score in his first game as captain of a U.S. national team, but he didn’t need to as the U.S. U-20 national team crushed Haiti’s U-23s, 5-1, on Wednesday night in Sunrise, Fla.

Michael Bradley, Miguel Gonzalez, Johann Smith and Tim Ward all scored in the first half as the U-20s took a 4-0 lead into halftime. Three of the goals featured assists by Dallas midfielder Dax McCarty, who capped the scoring with a penalty kick in the 60th minute.

The Americans played the final 32 minutes with 10 players after Bradley was sent off for elbowing a Haitian player. Bradley and Smith had returned from Europe, where they play for Dutch club Heerenveen and English club Bolton Wanderers, respectively, for the four-day camp. Besides Adu, Gonzalez and Ward, three other MLS players started against Haiti: Quavas Kirk and Nathan Sturgis (both Los Angeles Galaxy), Tim Ward (Columbus Crew) and Rodrigo Lopez (Chivas USA). Collegians Brian Perk (UCLA) and Stephen McCarthy (Santa Clara) also started.
