Colorado Rapids president Roy Kline has resigned to pursue other business interests. San Jose Earthquakes general manager Lynne Meterparel will be leaving her team after MLS Cup 2000 to pursue other opportunities. “I have had a tremendous experience working here with the soccer community of Northern California,” Meterparel said. “… It is now time for me to pursue other passions and to pass the torch on to someone who is equally enthusiastic about the future of soccer.” Meterparel, 32, served as the general manager of San Jose since February 17, 1999. Prior to joining the Earthquakes, Meterparel served as the Director of Crowd Building for the New England Revolution for three years. Kline, who was named president of the Rapids in October of 1998, will leave the Rapids on Oct. 11. “I have had a fabulous experience with the Rapids over the past two years,” said Kline. “However, a fantastic opportunity arose and the timing was right to make the decision now.” Kline, 43, also served as the Rapids’ representative on the MLS Board of Governors and the MLS Competition Committee. Kline also leaves his position as Vice President of Anschutz Investment Company, the acquisitions and investments arm of the Anschutz group of companies of Denver. Kline was involved in the initial Anschutz investment in Major League Soccer as well as the purchases of the Los Angeles Kings and a minority position in the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association. Kline was involved in the development of the Staples Center in Los Angeles and the construction of the Kings and Lakers Training Center in El Segundo, Calif.
