Jason Hollins Bridgewater, N.J. Where can I go to find information on the defunct MISL and NASL leagues? I spent many years as a diehard San Diego Sockers’ fan during their title-filled decade of the 1980s, and I am having the hardest time locating any information on either league (aside from a few media guides on Internet auction sites). It’s almost as though they never existed. What gives? Mike Woitalla: Jason, I highly recommend Colin JoseÆs book, ôNASL: A Complete Record of the North American Soccer League.ö ItÆs available on amazon.com for $34.95, and is well worth it. This book, by the U.S. gameÆs premier historian, includes rosters and statistics from every NASL team. It begins in 1967 with the United Soccer Association and National Professional Soccer League — before they merged into the NASL — and ends with final season of 1984. Jose also provides detailed bios of scores of the leagueÆs colorful characters. I also recommend the ôU.S. Soccer Historyö section of soccerspot.com. (http://www.soccerspot.com/soccerhistory/) ItÆs a gold mine that includes stats and bios from NASL players. YouÆll also find year-by-year standings from the NASL and MISL. By the way, the Sept. 25 issue of Soccer America spotlights Kevin Crow — winner of eight indoor titles with the Sockers — in a ôThen and Nowö feature.
