A rough plan for television during the MLS playoffs has been drawn up, although a schedule can’t be finalized until all eight seeds are filled and the playoff bracketing is complete. Six provisional national TV slots have been allotted for the playoffs, in addition to the Oct. 15 final on ABC. These windows may or may not be filled by games depending on the bracketing and whether a series goes to the full three games. The windows (all times EDT): ò Thursday, Sept. 14 at 8 p.m. (ESPN2). Either Tampa Bay or Kansas City at home in first match of best-of-three quarterfinals. ò Saturday, Sept. 23 at 3:30 p.m. (ESPN2). MetroStars hosting Game 3 of its quarterfinal series, if necessary, is first choice. ò Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 8 p.m. (ESPN2). First game of semifinals. ò Friday, Sept. 29 at 8 p.m. (ESPN). Game 2 of semifinals. òSaturday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. (ESPN2). Game 2 of semifinals. ò Friday, Oct. 6 at 8 p.m. (ESPN). Game 3 of semifinals. The last “ExtraTime” of the season airs on ESPN2 Sept. 11, two days after the regular season ends. The show will not run during the playoffs. Telemundo will not air any playoff games. Problems with stadium availability will keep several teams from hosting weekend games on certain dates. Chicago, Tampa Bay, Los Angeles, the MetroStars, New England, Kansas City and Colorado have conflicts with football during the playoffs. The rough schedule is: quarterfinals — Sept. 14 through Sept. 24; semifinals — Sept. 26 through Sept. 30, and Oct. 6. The playoffs are scheduled to end Oct. 6 to free up international players for the U.S.-Costa Rica match Oct. 11, which means Mauricio Wright of New Englandwould be available as well as the U.S. players. Los Angeles has requested it not play Oct. 6 because of qualifiers scheduled two days later for Mauricio Cienfuegos (El Salvador), Luis Hernandez (Mexico) and Ezra Hendrickson (St. Vincent & the Grenadines).
