MLS’s Disciplinary Committee has fined New England head coach Fernando Clavijo $2,000 for prolonged, excessive dissent after the Revolution’s 1-1 draw with the Miami Fusion on April 29. New England midfielder Leonel Alvarez also was fined $250 for prolonged, excessive dissent after the match. Defender/midfielder Carlos Parra was charged $100 for prolonged dissent, as well. Miami defender Francis Okaroh was fined $250 for serious foul play during the match. All of the fines stem from action that occurred during the final moments of overtime. New England’s Johnny Torres received a through ball, dribbled into the penalty area and was unable to produce a shot with Okaroh challenging the play. Clavijo and New England players contended that Okaroh pulled Torres down and that the Revolution should have been awarded a penalty kick by referee Noel Kenny. Time expired seconds after the play. “On the last play I was concentrating on trying to get to the ball first, before Francis because we all know how quick he is,” Torres told the Boston Globe. “The referee said I dived. But if I’m five yards from goal and in front of the last defender, why dive? It’s a judgment call. I can’t say what he was thinking because I’m not a referee. But if it’s a foul, it’s a foul. That’s what the referees are there for. Maybe he was tired, like we all were.”
