The Tampa Bay Mutiny has signed striker Mamadou Diallo, who most recently with played Norwegian First Division team Lillestrom. However, Diallo’s work permit could take up to four weeks; in that span, the 28-year-old would miss the Mutiny’s first four matches. He will continue to train in Norway until his permit is finalized. Diallo, a 6-4, 190-pound native of Dakar, Senegal, participated in two preseason matches with the Mutiny, scoring four goals in an 8-1 win over the University of Tampa March 2, and notching Tampa Bay’s only goal, a penalty kick, in a 3-1 loss to the Chicago Fire on March 4. Diallo had four shots on goal in the match versus the Fire before sitting out due to a sprained ankle suffered early in the second half. According to the Tampa Bay Mutiny, Diallo played for Marrakech (Morocco) from 1994-95, scoring 31 goals in 60 games. From 1995-96, he was with St. Gallen (Switzerland), tallying 14 goals in 21 matches. In 1996-97, Diallo scored 14 goals in 30 matches with Zeytinburu (Turkey) before joining Lillestrom (Norway) in July, 1997. He has 19 goals in 29 matches with Lillestrom. Diallo also has collected 46 caps with the Senegal national team, scoring 21 goals. “Diallo is big, athletic and dynamic,” Mutiny coach Tim Hankinson said. “He has good experience having played for First Division teams in Morocco, Turkey, Switzerland and Norway. He has the ability to grab the attention of the defense, which should create opportunities for Raul Diaz Arce as well as himself.รถ
