U.S. national team and New England Revolution defender Alexi Lalas will be loaned to Emelec of Ecuador for a month after the completion of World Cup qualifying. Lalas will depart for Ecuador on Nov. 23 and is expected to return in mid-December. He will join the team for its final regular season games and post-season competition. Emelec is currently fourth in Ecuador’s First Division. “We are pleased about Alexi’s decision to gain more experience by playing overseas,” said Revolution coach Thomas Rongen. “We encourage all our players to improve their play in such a manner. We are excited that he has the opportunity to play for one of South America’s top clubs at the most important time of its season.” Revolution defender Brian Dunseth is also gaining experience outside of the U.S. He is currently on a two-month loan to Glasgow Rangers of Scotland.
