In the first of a series of cuts that will eventually pare the U.S. women’s national team down to a 20-player roster for the 1999 Women’s World Cup, U.S. coach Tony DiCicco has released North Carolina’s Laurie Schwoy and Notre Dame’s Jen Grubb from the national team’s residency camp. DiCicco has also brought in former Portland midfielder Justi Baumgardt, former Duke defender Samantha Baggett and former William & Mary forward Natalie Neaton into camp as floaters. They will be training with the team until at least April 17. Tickets for the June 6 send-off match for the U.S., against Canada at Civic Stadium in Portland, Ore., go on sale on April 19. Tickets for the game, the Americans’ last before the World Cup, will be available through Portland FASTIXX locations or by calling 1-800-992-8499.
