MLS and the A-League signed an agreement March 11 that will ensure cooperation between the two leagues in the future.
According to the agreement, which was developed by A-League Commissioner Richard Groff and MLS Deputy Commissioner Sunil Gulati, A-League players may transfer to MLS teams, while MLS players may play on loan with A-League clubs. A-League teams will be compensated for transferring players.
Both leagues have also agreed to work together to improve coaching, refereeing, and player development programs in the U.S. and Canada.
“The A-League and MLS are committed to developing the sport of professional soccer,” said Groff. “This agreement is the first in a relationship that will develop coaches and players as well as encourage matches between teams in both leagues.”
