The U.S. and Argentina are tied 1-1 at halftime of their Group A Olympic match before a packed house in Birmingham, Ala.

The first half was fairly even, although Argentina created more solid scoring chances. Ariel Ortega is doing the bulk of the playmaking for Argentina, and the U.S. defense is having difficulty with Jose Chamot’s attacking runs from the left back position.

Claudio Reyna has been playing an inspired game for the U.S. on his birthday. The midfielder set up his first-minute goal with a fine, hard tackle in midfield, and then collected a deflected cross from Imad Baba to put the U.S. ahead.

U.S. forwards Jovan Kirovski and A.J. Wood have made little impact on Argentina’s four Serie A defenders.
