The U.S. continues to lead Sweden 1-0, courtesy of Tisha Venturini’s 15th minute strike. The U.S. has controlled the action so far, as the American defense has stymied the Swedes’ attacks.

Venturini is unfortunate not to have a hat trick already. She headed off the crossbar in the first minute, after Mia Hamm had curled a 35-yard free kick towards the far post. In the 45th minute, Shannon MacMillan’s 30-yard blast was saved by the Swedish keeper, Nilsson, who dived to her right and parried the ball to Venturini, whose shot rebounded off the near post.

In other women’s action, Brazil and Japan are scoreless at halftime in their Group F match.
