Shannon MacMillan, who had been on the field less than five minutes, scored the game-winning goal in sudden-death overtime to give the U.S. a 2-1 win over Norway.
U.S. midfielder Julie Foudy found an unmarked MacMillan, who replaced Tiffeny Milbrett in the 96th minute, on the right side of the field near the top of the box. MacMillan took the ball inside the box, and blasted a low shot that beat the Norweigan keeper to the far post.
With the dramatic win, the U.S. advances to face China in the gold medal match Thursday at 8:30 p.m. (eastern).
