The U.S. and China are scoreless at halftime of their Group E match in Miami.
The U.S. has controlled possession more than China, but the Chinese are playing well. Neither team has had an abundance of scoring chances.
China’s Wang Liping broke free in the U.S. box in the 21st minute, but her 12 yard shot to the near post was not struck very well, and Briana Scurry made the save.
The U.S. had a chance late in the half when Carla Overbeck fed a fine ball to Kristine Lilly down the left flank. A Chinese midfielder shielded Lilly just after her last touch, allowing Gao Hong to collect the ball and thwart the U.S. opportunity.
Carin Gabarra came in for Tiffeny Milbrett in the 29th minute.
