The U.S. Soccer Federation has authorized the Colorado Rapids of MLS to fill a quarterfinal spot in the U.S. Open Cup that was vacated by the A-League’s Colorado Foxes.
Five players from the Foxes who compete for the Jamaican national team were called up for a World Cup qualifying match against Honduras this Saturday, the same day as the Foxes’ U.S. Open Cup match against the Kansas City Wiz. The Foxes decided to forfeit the match. Rather than accept a forfeit, Kansas City has agreed to host the Rapids as a replacement team.
The winner will join D.C. United, the A-League’s Rochester Rhinos, and the winner of the Seattle Sounders-Dallas Burn match in the semifinals.
